How to Make Yoast SEO Green

You’ve probably been making blogs and learning a lot about SEO, but there’s still something missing. Whatever method you used to improve your readability score, the Yoast SEO indicator light to the left of it makes you wonder why you’ve never gotten it to green. That is why I am going to teach you how to make Yoast SEO green and finally solve this mystery!

Yoast SEO problems & Solutions

First, we need to identify the problems that Yoast SEO tells us about and address them. To check the problems on your blog, click the dropdown on the Yoast SEO analysis below, and you can start from there.

Text length

If you have this problem, you simply have to write more content for your blog. It is important that the blog at least contain 300 words. One of my tricks was just doing a writing trick called “Freewriting.” This technique basically does is to keep writing your thoughts on paper or type them on a notepad, or much better, in whatever tool you use for writing, like Grammarly, and forget all of the grammar mistakes, all the rules, and just unleash your thoughts, opinions, and ideas as much as possible until you’ve got nothing to write about the topic you want to blog about or you’ve already reached 300 words and you’ve written enough. Then it is time to correct those grammar mistakes and structure it properly.

SEO Title Width

As you can see on this blog, the title isn’t too long and isn’t too short either, just the perfect length but not hard to read and relevant to the topic. This is critical from here on to perfect its length and relevance for the next steps.

Keyphrase length

Now I assume you have thought of an excellent title for your blog. It is time to copy it and paste it on the focus keyword in the Yoast SEO below, and after that, you’ll notice the keyphrase length problem is solved.

Keyphrase Density

After you input your focus keyphrase another problem will surface on the Yoast SEO analysis and that is the keyphrase density. It basically says that our focus keyphrase that we inputted was not mentioned enough on our blog, which suggests our title is not relevant according to Yoast SEO analysis. Try to click the eye button on the right. It will highlight our keyphrase mentioned on the blog.

Now to fix this, you simply have to mention your focus keyphrase again in your blog post. One of my tricks that I would like to share was a simple play of words. I am going to mention the complete keyphrase unsuspectingly for the readers for its purpose. Check out the image below. You’ll see I added another sentence mentioning the full focus keyphrase.

As you can see, the problem is fixed. If it isn’t in your case, try reading what the problem is; most likely, you just have to mention the focus key again until it disappears. It requires that you mention your focus keyphrase two times. Do not mention it in one paragraph only but in multiple paragraphs of your blog post. I also have to warn you that you shouldn’t over use the focus keyphrase on your blog because another problem that will appear is the “Over optimization” problem, which is a keyphrase density problem, so just make sure you have mentioned your focus keyphrase two times and do not exceed six times.

Outbound Links

It’s time to address this problem. It is the outbound links problem. To fix this, just add some links in your blog post that aren’t only links from your past blog posts or any links relating to your website itself, because those are the inbound links. This problem asks us for an outbound link. In my case, I am going to insert an outbound link in this blog post. For example, I mentioned earlier about “grammarly”. To utilize this opportunity, I am going to add a link to it. There are numerous times when the outbound links cannot be recognized because they are not inserted correctly. Please see the image below for how to properly insert a link in your blog post. This will solve the outbound links problem.

Adding outbound link properly

Inbound Links

Just like the outbound links problem, to fix this you just have to add an inbound link, which means a link that links to your website itself. For example, in my conclusion to this blog post, I made a little advertisement as I linked an inbound link to one of the blog posts from this website itself. Check the image below.

Same steps of the outbound links above but in inbound link

Meta description Length

To fix this meta description length problem, just think of something relevant. My trick would be to get a reference to my introduction itself. Make sure it’s not too long and too short also. We will come back shortly to the metadescription and edit it to fix problems that will arise later on.

Keyphrase in Meta Description

And we’re back to metadescription again. If you made it this far, you’ve probably got a focus keyphrase for your blog already and you’ve probably made a metadescription below in the Yoast SEO analysis. To fix this, just include your focus keyphrase in the metadescription just like what I did in the image below.

Keyphrase In Slug

This one is very easy, because most likely it is already fixed with the default Yoast SEO settings. If it’s not in your case, just copy your focus keyphrase and paste it on the slug input on the Yoast SEO analyis below and replace the spaces with a dash symbol. This is important to make Yoast SEO green.

My Slug

Previously used Keyphrase

If you have this problem, it means you’ve already used this keyphrase before, not on the blog but in the whole blog posts you’ve made in the past. Yes, it analyzes both your previous blog posts and this current blog to see if they are unique and if the focus keyphrase has never been used. Just make something new and original to fix this problem and input your focus keyphrase into the analysis below.

Keyphrase in Introduction

This problem is most likely already solved without you noticing if you perfected the introduction of your blog post, which is located in the very first paragraph of your blog post. If this isn’t the case, put some relevance into it by adding some keyphrases, just like the introduction of this blog. Check out the image below or check out the “Keyphrase Density” section.

Focus Keyphrases used in the introduction paragraph

Keyphrase in subheading

Just like any other keyphrase problem, to fix this, you have to mention your focus keyphrase again in your blog post, but this time it is in a higher sub-heading. For example, it is on an H2 heading or above. For example, I will make a heading that mentions my focus keyphrase for the unsuspecting readers. If you noticed just right after this blog’s introduction, I added my focus keyphrase in the problems & solutions header of this blog. I bet you didn’t see that coming. Check out the image below.

image Alt Attributes

To fix this, you just have to describe the images in your blog post and make sure at least some of them mention your focus keyphrase. Check the image below for how to add the alt text on images.
